John N. Kurowski joined Fuhrman & Dodge in July of 2017. John has practiced law in Wisconsin for over 20 years. After growing up in Milwaukee, John received his undergraduate degree (B.A. in political science, with distinction, 1991) and law degree (cum laude, 1994) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While in law school, John was an associate editor of the Wisconsin Law Review. Prior to joining Fuhrman & Dodge, John practiced for over 15 years in the business organizations department of one of Wisconsin’s largest corporate law firms and then for over 6 years as the senior business and finance attorney for a smaller Madison firm.
John’s main practice areas are general business and corporate law and business transactions. John has served as counsel to a wide range of business clients, from individuals and start-ups looking for advice on developing a new business to public and privately held companies of all sizes ranging from manufacturers to financial institutions and service organizations. Acting as trusted advisor, John advises clients on a wide variety of matters, including transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and divestitures and joint ventures. John also advises clients on complex contracts, securities law matters, and matters related to corporate governance and operations, including business records, employment agreements, ownership concerns and structure and noncompetition and confidentiality agreements. As part of his practice John has worked with clients on transactions ranging from under $1 million up to $2 billion. John has teamed with Wisconsin investment banking firms as well as national firms such as Goldman Sachs.
Examples of John’s experience in assisting clients include: (A) Helping a finance business acquire venture capital financing, enabling the client to expand operations and restructure its ownership; (B) Selling a manufacturing company to a management group, enabling the client to achieve the goal of maintaining local ownership for the business; (C) Acquiring a manufacturing company on behalf of a venture fund client in a transaction that involved venture capital and bank financing; (D) Assisting in the purchase and sale of hotels and resorts; (E) Assisting with the selection of an appropriate investment banking firm to assist with the marketing and sale of a client; and (F) Drafting model noncompetition and confidentiality agreements to assist clients in a variety of contexts, including the sale of a business.
John is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Dane County Bar Association and the Milwaukee Bar Association. John has also volunteered extensively for the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin including as a board member and member of several committees. In his free time, John enjoys golf, fishing, hiking and attending sporting events.
